The National Leader of the Kwankwasiyya Movement and former Governor of Kano State, Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, has formally received 24 retired military officers who have pledged their allegiance to the Kwankwasiyya ideology.
The declaration took place during a special gathering in Kano, where the former service members, drawn from various ranks of the Nigerian Armed Forces, were publicly welcomed into the movement known for its strong grassroots structure and red-cap symbolism.
Kwankwaso, who also contested in the 2023 presidential election under the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP), hailed the retired officers for their decision, describing it as a “boost to the vision and values” of the Kwankwasiyya Movement. He emphasized the movement’s focus on discipline, public service, and national development—values he said align with the professional ethics of the military.
“We welcome you with open arms. Your experience and discipline will help strengthen our struggle for social justice, educational empowerment, and a better Nigeria,” Kwankwaso stated.
Speaking on behalf of the group, Col. Mohammed Sani (rtd) said the officers chose to identify with the Kwankwasiyya Movement due to its commitment to youth empowerment, education, and national unity.
The Kwankwasiyya Movement, originally rooted in Kano State politics, has grown into a nationwide political force, especially among youth and professionals. Political observers say the inclusion of ex-military officers could further broaden its appeal ahead of future national engagements.
Analysts believe the development could signal strategic positioning by the movement as Nigeria heads toward another political cycle.
