The Coalition of Shiroro Associations (COSA) has commended Niger State Governor, Mohammed Umaru Bago, for retaining Deputy Governor Yakubu Garba as his running mate for the 2027 governorship election, describing the decision as a demonstration of trust, loyalty and continuity in governance.

In a statement signed by its General Secretary, Saidu Salihu, the group said it received with “great delight” the announcement of Garba’s renomination alongside Governor Bago, expressing appreciation for what it described as a thoughtful and courageous decision.

According to the coalition, the Governor’s choice came after months of speculation over who would emerge as his deputy governorship candidate, with several prominent figures from the Niger East Senatorial District reportedly being considered for the position.

COSA noted that despite the political discussions and pressures surrounding the selection, Governor Bago opted to retain his deputy, a move it said reflected the confidence he has in their working relationship and shared commitment to the development of the state.

The group said the decision transcended politics, stressing that consistency, dedication and productive partnerships should always be recognised and rewarded in leadership.

It congratulated Garba on his renomination, describing it as both a personal honour and a source of pride for the people of Shiroro Local Government Area and the entire Niger East Senatorial District.

The coalition also urged Governor Bago and his deputy to remain committed to delivering good governance and advancing efforts toward building a more united, peaceful, secure and prosperous Niger State.

It said residents of the state have high expectations and expressed confidence that the two leaders would continue to serve with dedication and a strong sense of responsibility.

COSA reaffirmed its commitment to promoting peace, unity, community development and good governance, pledging continued support for initiatives that advance the collective interests and well-being of the people of Niger State.

The statement concluded by congratulating Governor Bago on what it described as an important decision and wished both him and Garba wisdom, strength and success in their continued service to the state.
