The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Sokoto State has strengthened its ranks following the defection of several prominent members of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) to the ruling party.

Among those who joined the APC are former member of the Sokoto State House of Assembly representing Sokoto North Constituency II, Ibrahim Mai Kaji; former Chairman of Sokoto North Local Government, Jibo Mazuga; Nasiru Bello Muhtasibbi; and Hassan Romo, a former member of the Sokoto State House of Assembly representing Tambuwal Local Government Area.

The defectors were formally received by the Chairman of the APC Decampees Reception Committee, Professor Attahiru Ahmed Sifawa, during a reception held at Gawon Nama in the presence of the APC leader in Sokoto State, Senator Aliyu Magatakarda Wamakko.

Addressing the gathering, Senator Wamakko described the APC as the defectors’ original political home and assured them of equal opportunities and full participation in the affairs of the party.

He also dismissed what he described as misinformation being circulated by some individuals regarding the performance of the administration of Governor Ahmad Aliyu, insisting that the government was implementing development projects across the state.

According to the former governor, billions of naira have been committed to infrastructure and other developmental initiatives in both urban and rural communities, citing projects such as the Durbawa–Mai Kujera Road, Wamakko–Bunkari Road, as well as road and infrastructure works in Tambuwal, Bodinga, Illela, Gwadabawa, Silame, Kware, Gada, Shagari and other parts of Sokoto State.

He said attempts by critics to downplay the achievements of the state government were driven by personal interests despite what he described as the visible impact of ongoing projects on residents.

Wamakko urged APC members and supporters to continue sensitising the public on the various projects being executed by the state government to enable citizens to appreciate what he called the dividends of good governance.

The event was attended by the APC Chairman of Sokoto North Local Government, Murtala Hassan; the party’s Financial Secretary, Nasiru Italy; the member representing Gwadabawa South Constituency in the Sokoto State House of Assembly, Bello Idris Cimola; the Commissioner for Science and Technology, Professor Attahiru Ahmed Sifawa; and other party leaders.
