Kebbi State Governor Nasir Idris has vowed to swiftly sign death warrants for convicted informants aiding bandits, declaring that such individuals do not deserve to live among law-abiding citizens.

The Governor made the strong declaration on Saturday during a condolence visit to Zogirma village in Bunza Local Government Area, where three policemen were recently killed in an armed robbery attack.

Decrying the role of informants in enabling banditry, Dr. Idris described them as “bad eggs” sabotaging national security for meager gains. He warned that capital punishment is the only appropriate penalty for their betrayal.

“I will not hesitate to sign the death warrant of any convicted informant within 24 hours. I am not in support of life imprisonment for such individuals. They should face capital punishment because they don’t deserve to live among us,” the Governor stated.

Condemning the murder of the three officers who died while protecting residents, Idris reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to enacting laws that prescribe the death penalty for informants.

He also assured residents of the state of strengthened security measures, including the deployment of additional personnel to vulnerable communities.

“This is a government of the people. We will do everything humanly possible to ensure our citizens sleep with their two eyes closed,” he said. “Security remains our top priority, and we will not treat it with levity.”

Chairman of Bunza Local Government Area, Hon. Zayyanu Shehu, praised the Governor for his swift response to the tragedy and for donating N50 million and assorted food items to victims of recent attacks. He promised that only genuine victims would benefit from the intervention.

The District Head of Zogirma, Alhaji Tijjani Muhammad (Sarkin Yakin Zogirma), also commended Governor Idris for his concern and called for more security operatives in the area to prevent further violence.

The visit comes amid ongoing efforts by Kebbi State to curb the menace of insecurity and restore peace to its rural communities.
