Wamakko leads as APC launches electronic membership registration

The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Sokoto State on Thursday formally inaugurated its electronic membership registration exercise, with former Governor and serving Senator Aliyu Magatakarda Wamakko, leading party faithful to enroll under the new digital system.

The inauguration, held in Sokoto, is in compliance with the national call by the party, to modernise its membership database, improve internal organisation, and strengthen grassroots participation ahead of future political engagements.

Senator Wamakko, who was the first to be registered, said the exercise would have begun with the State Governor, Ahmed Aliyu but because he is away on Lesser Hajj to Saudi Arabia.

The former governor described the e-registration initiative as a strategic move to reposition the party for greater efficiency and inclusiveness, while urging party members across the state to embrace the process, noting that a credible and up-to-date membership register would enhance unity, transparency and effective mobilisation within the APC.

Earlier, at a press conference to announce the commencement of the exercise, the State Chairman of the APC, Isa Achida, called on all supporters of the party to take full advantage of the registration window to formalise their membership status.

Achida explained that the e-registration exercise is designed to replace the manual system, eliminate duplication, and provide accurate data on party membership across wards, local government areas and the state at large.

“This is an important exercise for our party. It will strengthen our structures from the grassroots and ensure that every member is properly captured in a central database,” he said.

“The number one member of our party in this registration is our leader, Senator Aliyu Wamakko. He will be followed by the Governor of Sokoto State, Dr Ahmed Aliyu, as number two, and then the Deputy Governor as number three, before other party leaders and members,” Acida said.

The APC chairman assured members that the process would be seamless and accessible, adding that trained officials have been deployed to registration centres to guide participants and address any technical challenges.

Party stakeholders present at the inauguration described the exercise as timely, noting that it reflects the APC’s commitment to internal reforms and democratic practices.

The e-registration exercise is expected to run across all wards in Sokoto State, with party leaders urging members to participate actively to ensure the success of the initiative.
