Mudashiru Obasa has been re-elected as the Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly, following his impeachment on January 13, 2025, over allegations of corruption and abuse of office.
However, De Renaissance Patriots Foundation, a socio-cultural organization of Lagos State indigenes, has strongly condemned his reinstatement, calling it a “monument of shame.”
In a statement issued by its Media Office on Monday, March 3, 2025, the group described the development as a disgraceful episode in the state’s legislative history.
“The Lagos State House of Assembly is an amusement park that will be remembered as a monument of shame. Waterloo awaits its occupants. History will repeat itself,” the statement read.
The group further criticized the lawmakers for what it termed an embarrassing display of political maneuvering.
“What you sow is what you reap. What happened in the Lagos State House of Assembly is a product of the ‘Renewed Hope’ agenda. No matter how they orchestrate their schemes, the river will eventually flow into the ocean,” the statement added.
De Renaissance Patriots Foundation also accused the Governor and Assembly members of failing to seize the opportunity to break free from the influence of political godfathers.
“They had the best chance to assert their authority but chose to remain in the shackles of the Emperor of Bourdillon,” the group stated.
