Former local government councillors in Jigawa State have honoured former Governor and current Minister of Defence, Mohammed Badaru Abubakar, with an award of appreciation for what they described as a historic fulfilment of severance entitlements spanning over two decades.
The recognition came during a courtesy visit by the Forum of Elected Former Councillors to Badaru’s residence in Kano on Friday. The group presented a plaque of appreciation in recognition of the former governor’s landmark decision to clear all outstanding severance allowances owed to councillors who served in the state from 1999 to 2023.
Speaking during the presentation, Chairman of the Forum, Mustafá Isyaku Sholy, said the gesture was a symbol of gratitude on behalf of all former councillors who benefited from the payment. He praised Badaru’s commitment to justice and workers’ welfare during his tenure.
“We are here not only to express our appreciation but to reaffirm our loyalty and continued support for His Excellency, whose legacy in local government administration remains unmatched,” Sholy said.
The visit was also attended by the Member representing Hadejia Constituency in the Jigawa State House of Assembly, Abubakar Sadiq Jallo, and former Chairman of Gumel Local Government, Ahmed Rufai Gumel, who both lauded the former governor for his people-centered leadership.
The councillors pledged their unwavering solidarity with Badaru in his current national assignment and future political aspirations within Jigawa State.
