Former Sokoto State governor, Aminu Waziri Tambuwal, is in the custody of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) over alleged fraudulent cash withdrawals totalling ₦189 billion, in breach of the Money Laundering (Prevention and Prohibition) Act, 2022. Tambuwal reportedly arrived at the EFCC headquarters in Abuja around 11:30 a.m. on Monday, where he is being interrogated by investigators. A senior EFCC official, who spoke off the record, said the former governor is facing questions over suspicious transactions during his tenure from 2015 to 2023, involving alleged unauthorised withdrawals of public funds. “The withdrawals are in clear violation of the…

I was in Bida, my hometown, over the weekend, and the air was alive. The sights, the sounds, the raw energy—it was all one big, vibrant buzz. First, there was the symbolic endorsement of our state governor, His Excellency Umar Bago, by APC stakeholders from Niger South. His presence alone could have pulled the attention of even breastfeeding infants, not to mention toddlers or the most apolitical souls tucked away in corners untouched by politics. But this piece isn’t about politics—it’s about something far more personal, far more human. On Sunday, 10th August 2025, I attended the graduation ceremony and…
In a bid to curb corruption and strengthen the rule of law, the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) Minna Branch has set up an Anti-Corruption Committee to tackle the menace in all its forms. Acting on the directive of the NBA National Secretariat, led by its National President, Mazi Afam Osigwe (SAN), the Minna branch inaugurated the committee during its monthly meeting held at the High Court Foyer. The branch chairman, Barrister Isyaku Barau, tasked the committee to “hit the ground running” by addressing corruption-related issues among members and other critical stakeholders in the judiciary. According to him, this step will…
Just two weeks ago, I was at the residence of Chief Audu Ogbeh, discussing plans for Shagari at 100, a celebration of the life and legacy of the late President Shehu Shagari and, by extension, the Second Republic. We also spoke about the passing of President Muhammadu Buhari, among other matters. In that conversation, Chief Ogbeh revealed why he was never reappointed as Minister of Agriculture: certain international business interests had waged a campaign against him because his policies threatened their import-dependent ventures— ventures that were harming Nigeria’s economy. He refused to compromise, and they succeeded in lobbying him out.…
Credite Capital Finance and Investment has declared a gross revenue of N2.04 billion for the 2024 financial year. Its Chairman, Mr. Tokunboh Abudu, made this known at the company’s Annual General Meeting (AGM) on Saturday in Lagos. Abudu said the gross revenue grew by 56.1 per cent compared to N1.31 billion achieved in the corresponding period of 2023. He attributed the growth to a 70 per cent increase in interest income, which rose from N976.5 million in 2023 to N1.66 billion in 2024, and a 15 per cent growth in non-interest income, which increased to N380.3 million in 2024 from…
The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has received a total of 151 letters of intent from associations seeking registration as political parties, with eight new submissions recorded since late July. According to a statement on Thursday by INEC’s National Commissioner and Chairman of the Information and Voter Education Committee, Sam Olumekun, the commission has begun shortlisting associations that meet the requirements to proceed to the next stage of the application process. “Since the 4th update released on 23rd July 2025, the commission has received eight more letters of intent from associations seeking registration as political parties. This brings the total…
Since 1999, Niger State has been governed by three different leaders, each of whom contributed in various ways to the state’s development — from the construction of urban and rural roads to rural electrification, agricultural growth, and investment in human capital. It is the hope of Nigerlites that each successive administration will perform better than the last. That is how true development is achieved: through progress and improvement with every new leader. As the world evolves, so do innovations and expectations in governance. As Professor Patrick Lumumba once said, “You are not successful until your successor succeeds.” That, to me,…
It was supposed to be a routine Monday morning at the Abuja Airport. Planes taking off, passengers boarding, the usual shuffle of bags and bodies. But somewhere between the clink of a flask and a question that dripped with ego, a small disagreement exploded into national headlines. By Bagudu Mohammed The players? Fuji legend Kwam 1, also known as K1 De Ultimate, and Value Jet’s pilot, Captain Oluremi Ogoyi. What should have been a brief exchange spiraled into a public spectacle — one that ended with the musician banned from the airline and the pilot’s license suspended. A minor incident,…
Life is full of packaging. We live in a world where appearances have become currency, and the shinier the wrapping, the more value we assign to it — forgetting that the real worth lies inside, not outside. That man with the charming smile, poetic campaign jingles, and sweet promises? Might also be the reason your road has been “under construction” since Obasanjo’s first term — and will probably still be a muddy swimming pool in your grandchildren’s time. He will attend every church harvest, wear the same jersey as your football club, and dance with the market women when cameras…
In Nigeria today, the political elite will go to great lengths to frustrate and suppress young people who dare to rise — especially those bold enough to present themselves as credible alternatives to the recycled, failed leadership the country has endured for decades. Recently, Youth President Amb Aliyu Bin Abbas had his X (formerly Twitter) account reported and targeted — a move he describes as a clear attempt to silence his voice and diminish the growing influence of a new generation determined to speak truth to power. “But while they may succeed in disrupting platforms, they will never succeed in…
