In the rich tapestry of Nigeria’s northern cultural heritage, the Zazzau emirate stands as a beacon of tradition, resilience, and leadership. The recent recognition of prominent Zazzau personalities by the Arewar mu Duniyar mu group is a testament to the enduring legacy of these individuals and their contributions to the peace and development of Northern Nigeria.

By Suleiman Abbah

Arewar mu Duniyar mu, a formidable collective of eminent northern Nigerians, embodies the spirit of unity and progress in the region. Established to promote the values of peace, leadership, and community service, the group serves as a platform for recognizing individuals who have made significant contributions to society. The recent awards ceremony, which honoured personalities such as Abdul-Azeez Suleiman, Abdul-Jalal I U Bello, and Saifullahi Bello, is a reflection of the group’s commitment to fostering an environment where exemplary leadership is celebrated and emulated.

At the forefront of this recognition is Abdul-Azeez Suleiman, a distinguished journalist and the spokesperson for the Northern Elders Forum (NEF). Awarded the prestigious title of Dan Adalan Arewa, Suleiman’s contributions to Northern Nigeria are both profound and multifaceted. His ascent to prominence as the spokesperson for the Coalition of Northern Groups (CNG) marked a pivotal moment in Northern advocacy, where he became a voice for the voiceless and a defender of the region’s interests.

Suleiman’s leadership is characterized by meticulous attention to detail and an unwavering focus on the challenges facing the North. His statesmanship, sacrifice, and commitment to the welfare of the people resonate deeply within the community. As a Peace Ambassador, he embodies the ideals of diplomacy and dialogue, advocating for harmonious coexistence among diverse ethnic and religious groups in Nigeria. His belief in the organic links between generations positions him as a mentor and guardian for the youth, inspiring them to aspire to the highest ideals of leadership.

Dan Adalan Arewa, Abdul-Azeez Suleiman

In a time when the North faces numerous socio-political challenges, Suleiman’s role as a passionate advocate for peace and unity is invaluable. He stands as a living testament to the qualities that young Northerners should strive to emulate—integrity, dedication, and a relentless pursuit of justice.

Equally deserving of recognition is Saifullahi Bello, a respected lawyer and the Ciroma of Tukur-Tukur in Zaria. Awarded the title of Ambassador of Peace, Bello’s contributions extend beyond the legal profession into the realm of community service and leadership. His role as a legal practitioner has equipped him with the tools to advocate for justice and equity, making him a crucial figure in the fight against societal injustices.

Bello’s commitment to peace is evident in his efforts to mediate conflicts and foster understanding among diverse groups. As an Ambassador of Peace, he actively promotes dialogue and collaboration, recognizing that lasting peace is built on mutual respect and understanding. His leadership style, characterized by empathy and inclusivity, resonates with the values of the Arewar mu Duniyar mu group, making him a fitting recipient of this honor.

In a landscape often marred by division, Bello’s work serves as a reminder of the power of unity and the importance of building bridges across cultural and societal divides. His recognition not only celebrates his individual achievements but also underscores the collective responsibility of leaders to work towards a more harmonious society.

The third honoree, Abdul-Jalal I U Bello, represents the new generation of leaders emerging from Northern Nigeria. As a young and promising politician, he has garnered immense respect for his vision, vigour, and commitment to the youth. Awarded the title of Yeriman Matasan Arewa, Bello’s approach to leadership is marked by a deep respect for elders and an understanding of the importance of mentorship in shaping the future.

Bello’s recognition as a leader among the youth highlights the critical role that young people play in the socio-political landscape of Nigeria. His ability to connect with both the older and younger generations signifies a bridge between tradition and modernity, ensuring that the values of the past inform the aspirations of the future. As a politician, his vision extends beyond immediate gains; he is focused on sustainable development and the empowerment of the youth, recognizing that they are the custodians of tomorrow’s Nigeria.

The award bestowed upon Bello is not merely an accolade; it is a call to action for the younger generation to engage actively in the political process, to advocate for their rights, and to contribute positively to the development of their communities. His leadership serves as an inspiration, encouraging young Northerners to embrace their potential and strive for excellence.

The recognition of these prominent Zazzau personalities by the Arewar mu Duniyar mu group carries significant implications for the future of Northern Nigeria. In a region grappling with challenges such as insecurity, economic disparities, and social unrest, the celebration of leaders who embody the values of peace, integrity, and service is a crucial step towards fostering a culture of accountability and responsibility.

By honoring individuals like Abdul-Azeez Suleiman, Saifullahi Bello, and Abdul-Jalal I U Bello, the Arewar mu Duniyar mu group not only acknowledges their contributions but also sets a standard for emerging leaders. It sends a clear message that leadership is not merely about holding positions of power but about serving the community with dedication and purpose.

Moreover, the emphasis on peace and unity in the awards reflects a broader recognition of the need for collaborative efforts to address the challenges facing the North. It serves as a reminder that the path to progress is paved with dialogue, understanding, and mutual respect among diverse groups. In a time when divisions threaten the fabric of society, the celebration of these leaders fosters hope and reinforces the idea that positive change is possible through collective action.

The Arewa mu Duniyar mu group’s recognition of prominent Zazzau personalities is a celebration of leadership, peace, and community service. Abdul-Azeez Suleiman, Saifullahi Bello, and Abdul-Jalal I U Bello exemplify the qualities that are essential for the development of Northern Nigeria and the nation as a whole. Their contributions serve as a testament to the power of dedicated leadership in fostering peace and unity amidst diversity.

As the North continues to navigate its challenges, the stories of these honorees inspire a renewed commitment to the values of integrity, service, and collaboration. The awards are not just a recognition of past achievements; they are a clarion call for a united and prosperous future, where the voices of the people are heard, and the aspirations of the youth are realized. In honouring these leaders, the Arewar mu Duniyar mu group has taken a significant step towards building a legacy of peace and progress for generations to come.
