The Northern Democratic Front has petitioned the Inspector General of Police (IGP), calling for the immediate arrest and prosecution of Garus Gololo over a viral video in which he allegedly made defamatory remarks against the President of the Senate and used what the group described as abusive language against the nation’s number three citizen.
In the petition dated and addressed to the IGP at the Force Headquarters in Abuja, the group alleged that the video circulating on social media contained “false and defamatory allegations” capable of inciting public disorder and undermining public peace.
The petition, signed by the group’s National President, Engr. Musa Abba, accused Gololo of claiming in the video that the President of the Senate told Northerners they must vote for President Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu in the 2027 general elections or leave the country.
The Northern Democratic Front described the allegation as “entirely false,” insisting that the Senate President never made such a statement.
“This act constitutes the deliberate spread of false information capable of inciting public disorder and breaching public peace,” the petition stated.
According to the group, the allegation was a calculated attempt to mislead the public and deepen regional tensions ahead of the 2027 elections.
The group also condemned Gololo’s alleged use of offensive and vulgar language in the video, describing it as disrespectful to the office of the Senate President and unbecoming of a responsible citizen in a democratic society.
“The conduct displayed in the video reflects total disregard for the high office he occupies and should not be tolerated,” the petition added.
The Northern Democratic Front further accused Gololo of persistently attacking President Tinubu and the All Progressives Congress (APC) under the guise of opposition politics, alleging that his actions were aimed at satisfying unnamed political sponsors.
“This pattern of behaviour by Garus Gololo must not be allowed to continue. The law must take its course,” the group stated.
The petition urged the police to immediately arrest Gololo, investigate the source of the allegations contained in the video, and prosecute him for criminal defamation, spreading false information, and conduct likely to cause a breach of public peace.
Copies of the petition were also forwarded to the President of the Senate, the Attorney General of the Federation, the Director-General of the Department of State Services (DSS), and the Commissioner of Police of the relevant state command.
The group called on the Inspector General of Police to treat the matter with urgency, warning that the unchecked spread of false claims against public officials could undermine democratic discourse and national stability.
As of the time of filing this report, the Nigeria Police Force had yet to issue an official response to the petition, while efforts to reach Garus Gololo for comment were unsuccessful.
