The Acting Vice-Chancellor of Sokoto State University, Prof. Mohammed Bello Yerima, has been honored with an Award of Excellence by the Kebbi Youths for Equity and Good Governance. The award presentation took place on Wednesday, September 11, 2024, at the Senate Chamber of the University.

While presenting the award on behalf of the association, the Organizing Secretary, Ibrahim Muhammad, stated that the award commemorates the 33rd anniversary of Kebbi State.

He praised Prof. Yerima for his exceptional dedication to fostering a cordial relationship between Kebbi and Sokoto states, as well as his contributions to education, youth advancement, and biotechnology in Sub-Saharan Africa.

In his acceptance speech, Prof. Yerima expressed his commitment to serving humanity and acknowledged the university’s efforts towards academic excellence and infrastructural development. He added that preparations are underway for the upcoming National Universities Commission’s October/November accreditation exercise.

Prof. Yerima also expressed the institution’s appreciation to the Sokoto State Governor and Visitor to the University, His Excellency, Dr. Ahmed Aliyu Sokoto, for his significant support and contributions to the growth and development of the university. He particularly commended the Governor for the prompt payment of salaries and allowances to sabbatical and visiting lecturers, a gesture that has greatly benefited the university.

The Acting Vice-Chancellor further appreciated Governor Ahmed Aliyu’s intervention in repairing structures on the university campus that were damaged by a severe windstorm, noting that the repairs are progressing steadily. He acknowledged the Governor’s efforts in addressing this critical issue and ensuring that the university continues to strive for academic excellence.

The Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Administration), Prof. Attahiru Ahmad Sifawa, delivered a vote of thanks on behalf of the university, expressing gratitude to the association for recognizing Prof. Yerima’s achievements.

The event was attended by the Bursar, Muhammad Sahabi Tambuwal; the University Librarian, Dr. Ibrahim Furfuri; the Acting Director of Physical Planning and Maintenance, Arch. Abubakar Abdullahi; as well as Deans and Directors.
