Political parties and candidates taking part in Saturday’s re-run elections in Sokoto State, on Thursday, signed a peace pact to work toward a hitch-free exercise.

In a speech at the event, organised by the state Police Command, the Commissioner of Police, Mr
Kaigama urged the gladiators in the re-run to shun actions capable of igniting unrest before, during and after the elections.

He said that operatives had been fully deployed to enforce law and order and warned politicians against spreading rumours, especially on the outcomes of the elections.

He said that the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) is the only body allowed by law to declare and announce the results and urged people to play by the rules of the game.

Kaigama cautioned the social media handlers to avoid spreading rumours, saying that the command had put machinery in place to ensure the peaceful conduct of the exercise.

The Administrative Secretary of INEC in the state, Mrs Hauwa Kangiwa, said that adequate arrangement had been made to ensure the smooth conduct of the re-run elections.

Kangiwa said that materials and manpower for areas earmarked for the exercise had been organised and urged political actors to remain supportive by ensuring compliance with electoral regulations.

In separate remarks, the Chairmen of PDP and APC, Alhaji Muhammad Goronyo and Isa Achida, promised to maintain peace and adhere to the electoral guidelines.

The elections would be conducted in 46 polling units across Yabo/Shagari Federal Constituency, Bodinga and Tambuwal Local Government Areas for the House of Assembly.
