Kano State Governor, Abba Yusuf, has appointed Umar Ibrahim as the new Secretary to the State Government (SSG).
The appointment was announced in a statement issued on Saturday by the governor’s spokesperson, Sunusi Bature Dawakin Tofa, and takes effect from Monday, February 10, 2025.
According to the statement, Ibrahim was selected based on his vast experience and expertise, which are expected to play a crucial role in advancing the administration’s development agenda.
Umar Farouk Ibrahim brings more than 30 years of public service experience to his new role. His career in the Kano State Civil Service (1987–2023) has been marked by key leadership positions, contributing significantly to governance and administration.
Between March 2001 and May 2015, Ibrahim served as Permanent Secretary for Research, Evaluation, and Political Affairs in the Office of the SSG, where he played a pivotal role in policy analysis and advisory for the government, and overseeing policy implementation across Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs).
From June 2015 to March 2016, he was Permanent Secretary for the Administration and General Services Directorate, showcasing strong leadership and administrative skills. He also served as acting SSG in 2013 and 2014 during official leaves, demonstrating the trust placed in him by past administrations.
Beyond his formal roles, Ibrahim was a secretary to several high-profile committees, including: Coordinating Committee on Independent Power (2012–2015); Committee on the Identification and Sale of Government Property (2012) and State Payroll Standing Committee (2000–2004).
His early career saw him contribute to community and educational reforms, including his role as Secretary of the Inter-Community/Religious Consultative Forum (1998) and the Committee on the Review of the Operations of the Agency for Mass Education (1994).
Ibrahim holds a B.Sc. in Political Science from Ahmadu Bello University (1985) and has obtained several professional certificates that enriched his expertise.
As a seasoned administrator and retired Permanent Secretary, Ibrahim is expected to enhance governance efficiency and strengthen the administrative framework of Governor Yusuf’s government.
Governor Yusuf expressed confidence that Ibrahim’s appointment will contribute significantly to achieving the administration’s vision for Kano State, underscoring the need for experienced leadership to drive sustainable development.
