Pastor William Kumuyi, General Superintendent of Deeper Christian Life Ministry, has urged preachers to focus on helping their congregations rather than exploiting them for financial gain.
Speaking at a recent “Ministerial Renewal” program for church ministers and workers worldwide, Kumuyi highlighted the need for preachers to uplift the poor and vulnerable, especially widows, rather than taking the little they have through promises of blessings tied to seed-sowing.
He emphasized, “Elijah added value to those who were low, including widows who couldn’t pay back. That’s what true anointing should do—lift people, not take from them.”
Kumuyi criticized preachers who manipulated their congregants, particularly poor widows, to give away their inheritance in the name of receiving divine multiplication. He questioned the well-being of these widows after they’ve sacrificed everything, while preachers continue to accumulate wealth.
“The preachers of today are getting richer at the expense of their church members. Let someone speak out and tell our prophets, preachers, and bishops that this is not right,” Kumuyi declared, calling for a transformation that prioritizes helping the needy over personal enrichment.
