Kebbi State Governor, Nasir Idris, cast his vote in the 2024 Local Government elections and expressed his appreciation for the large crowd that turned out to elect their Local Government Chairmen and Councillors.

This election marks the first Local Government polls organized by the incumbent administration of Comrade Dr. Nasir Idris.

Governor Idris voted at Nagari Science College at about 11:12 a.m., accompanied by family members, friends, and some top government officials.

Speaking to journalists shortly after casting his vote, Governor Nasir Idris praised the turnout of voters.

He attributed this to his administration’s track record in executing people-oriented projects across the 21 councils and 225 wards in the state.

He also noted that his administration provided a conducive environment for the election and ensured the participation of other political parties without any issues.

According to him, “As I mentioned before, our government has created an enabling environment for all parties. You can see this for yourself by visiting these polling units.

“There is orderliness, and people have come out en masse, both male and female, to cast their votes.

“This is the second election being conducted since I became Governor.” He continued, “When I was elected, we completed an inconclusive election in Arewa/Dandi Federal Constituency, and a fresh election was conducted in Shanga/Yauri/Ngaski Federal Constituency following the appointment of Dr. Yusuf Tanko Sununu as State Minister for Education.

“With Almighty God on our side, we were able to win all the elections, and In sha Allahu, by God’s grace, if track records are any indication, I believe the people of Kebbi State will vote for our great party, APC.

“By God’s grace, all our candidates will win in this election,” he assured.

While speaking on local government autonomy, Idris stated that the Kebbi State Government has already complied with the Supreme Court’s judgment.

He said, “Local Government autonomy has come to stay, and I have no issues with it. As a democrat and a labor leader, I understand the importance of independence for local governments.”

The Governor emphasized that his administration has maintained a harmonious working relationship with local government authorities. “We have been working closely with our local governments.

“When you visit these councils, you can see many projects being executed by the Local Government Councils. The presence of the Government is visible throughout the councils. I am fully aware of the challenges facing local government areas.

“Therefore, as a true democrat, my administration has accepted the Supreme Court’s judgment and has adhered to its decision,” he stated.

Earlier, voters across Kebbi State turned out in large numbers on Saturday to peacefully elect Chairmen and Councillors of their choice in the 21 Local Government Areas and 225 wards across the state.
