A joint operation led by the Department of State Security (DSS) has rescued four victims from a bandits’ den in Malafana Bush, Sokoto State. The successful mission highlights ongoing efforts by security agencies to tackle banditry in the region.
Among the rescued victims is Malam Umar Umar Dankoli Kagarar Rima, who recounted his 26-day ordeal. He revealed that he was kidnapped alongside his 13-year-old granddaughter, and the kidnappers initially demanded a ransom of ₦50 million, later reducing it to ₦10 million.
According to Malam Umar, the family raised ₦1 million through contributions, which his eldest son delivered to the bandits nine days ago. However, upon reaching the camp, the son was also detained by the bandits, who insisted on receiving the full ransom.
Their plight ended when a joint patrol team stormed the camp, rescuing them from captivity.
Commenting on the operation, the Special Adviser to the Governor on Security Matters, retired Colonel Abdulhamid Usman, attributed the recent successes in combating banditry to the unwavering support of Governor Ahmed Aliyu Sokoto.
“In the last eleven days, we have made significant progress in the fight against banditry. The governor’s support has been instrumental in these achievements,” he said.
He further urged the public to provide timely and credible information to security agencies to help sustain and expand these gains.
This marks another victory in the state’s ongoing battle against banditry, underscoring the critical role of collaboration between government and security forces.
