The Minister of Defence, Mohammed Badaru Abubakar, has issued a directive to the Chief of Defence Staff (CDS) to deploy security forces to safeguard ongoing repair efforts on damaged electricity towers.
This action follows President Bola Tinubu’s instruction to swiftly address the recent power grid collapse, attributed to sabotage by third parties. The incident has led to widespread power outages across Northern Nigeria, affecting essential services and the daily lives of citizens.
Expressing deep concern over the disruptions caused by the grid failure, President Tinubu emphasized the importance of securing critical infrastructure from future attacks.
In line with this, the Defence Minister instructed the CDS to establish robust security measures around the repair sites. These measures aim to deter interference by non-state actors and ensure that the necessary repairs proceed without delay.
Badaru highlighted the government’s commitment to restoring and stabilizing the power supply as a priority, acknowledging the adverse effects that prolonged power outages have on citizens and businesses.
He also emphasized the importance of maintaining the integrity of Nigeria’s energy infrastructure as part of the country’s broader security framework.
The Minister appealed to Nigerians, particularly residents of affected states, to remain patient and supportive as the government works to address the crisis. He assured the public that efforts are in full swing to restore normalcy and improve the resilience of the power grid to prevent future disruptions.
