A brutal attack on the Majagada community in Lere Local Government Area of Kaduna State has left four people dead, three others injured, and 12 abducted. The Akurmi Development Association (AKURDA) has strongly condemned the attack, which occurred in the early hours of February 5, 2025.
The bandits struck around midnight, killing four individuals: Rev. Bitrus Sale, a respected ECWA pastor, Mr. Maitala Madaki, Mr. Iliya Kasada, and Mr. Ishaya Luka. Their deaths are a tragic reminder of the persistent violence plaguing the region.
In addition to the killings, 12 people were kidnapped, including women and children aged between 14 and 40 years. The abducted individuals are: Mrs. Godiya Istifanus, Miss Happy Awaje, Miss Rachael Istifanus, Mrs. Agnes Yusuf, Mrs. Nchiye Haukuri, and Mr. Divine Haukuri.
Others are Mr. Habila Digga, Mrs. Martha Ibrahim, Mrs. Comfort Yusuf, Mrs. Nahum Tanko, Mrs. Zakka Tanko and Mrs. James Tanko.
The fate of the victims remains uncertain, leaving their families in anguish.
Three people sustained injuries in the attack: Mr. Bawa Samaila, Mr. Thomas Bawa, and Mr. Peter Maitala. They are currently receiving medical treatment, and their conditions are being closely monitored.
AKURDA has called on security agencies and the government to act swiftly in securing the release of the kidnapped individuals and preventing future attacks. The association urged the authorities to address the root causes of insecurity and ensure that the perpetrators are brought to justice.
“The attack on Majagada is yet another tragic reminder of the insecurity affecting our region. We urge the government to take immediate action to protect our communities,” said AKURDA’s National President, Mr. Maigamo Yakubu, and National Public Relations Officer, Mr. Pius Kyauta Agaji, in a statement.
They added, “We are deeply saddened by the loss of lives and the suffering of the innocent people of Majagada. We pray for the safe return of those abducted and the recovery of the injured. The government must take decisive steps to prevent such tragedies from recurring.”
The attack on Majagada adds to the growing list of violent incidents in Kaduna State, raising concerns about the region’s security. The global community has condemned similar acts of violence, with the United Nations and the Security Council previously calling for decisive action against insecurity in Nigeria.
As Majagada mourns, its residents and the Akurmi people hope for swift justice and the return of their loved ones. AKURDA has vowed to continue advocating for their safety and rights while urging authorities to take urgent steps to restore peace in the region.
