The Kebbi Elders’ Consultative Forum has urged politicians and political parties in the state to shun abusive language and engage in politics with restraint and dignity.
The acting Chairman of the Forum, Justice Muhammad Suleiman Ambursa, made the appeal while expressing deep concern over the rising use of insults and verbal attacks among political actors in Kebbi State.
According to him, “Politics is a fair contest that must be played according to established rules. Leaders must work towards leaving behind a legacy of peace, justice, and moral uprightness for future generations, in line with the values of humility and discipline promoted by our religious teachings.”
Justice Ambursa further advised media organisations, particularly radio stations, to avoid being platforms for divisive rhetoric and to uphold professional ethics as outlined in the Nigeria Broadcasting Code. He noted that certain stations have become tools for disgruntled politicians to malign each other, a trend that undermines social cohesion.
“As a body of respected elders, the Forum will continue to provide guidance and promote harmonious coexistence in the interest of all citizens,” the Chairman stated.
