Former Senate President David Mark and former Minister of Interior, Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola, have been appointed interim National Chairman and National Secretary, respectively, of the African Democratic Congress (ADC).
Aregbesola confirmed his acceptance of the role in a letter addressed to the party’s leadership and stakeholders on Tuesday.
“It is with deep humility, a profound sense of duty, and unwavering hope for our people, nation, race, and party that I accept the appointment as the National Secretary of our great party,” he wrote.
He expressed gratitude to the party’s leadership for the trust placed in him and commended members who still believe in the power of politics to drive positive change.
“Politics must be more than a vehicle for personal ambition. A true political party is not just an election-winning machine; it is an institution for mobilizing, organizing, educating, and empowering the people toward their emancipation and development,” Aregbesola stated.
He emphasized that the ADC must remain committed to democratic ideals and to serving the interests and aspirations of the people, describing political parties as platforms for public service, not tools of opportunism.
Aregbesola previously served as governor of Osun State and brings decades of political experience to his new role.
