A violent clash between Fulani herders and local hunters in Gidan Ori Kajan village, Matari district of Kaduna State, has left one man dead.

The incident, which occurred on May 3, 2025, reportedly involved a group of hunters from Wucicciri village in Zaria who stormed the Fulani settlement armed with sticks, cutlasses, swords, and accompanied by dogs. The confrontation is believed to have stemmed from a long-standing dispute.

Haladu Saidu, 50, sustained a fatal head injury during the altercation and was rushed to the Maigana Health Center, where he was confirmed dead. At the family’s request, his body was released for burial according to Islamic rites without a post-mortem examination.

Following the incident, police in Maigana, led by the Divisional Police Officer (DPO), arrested five suspects: Abdulaziz Magaji (25), Kamaludin Abubakar (33), Ali Idris (36), Saminu Dahiru (25), and Jamilu Umar (26), all from Wucicciri village. They are currently in custody as investigations continue.
