The Governing Council of the University of Ilorin (UNILORIN) has confirmed the promotion of 20 academic staff to the rank of professor and 31 others to the position of reader across various faculties of the institution.

This announcement was made in a statement issued to the media on Monday in Ilorin by UNILORIN’s Registrar, Mr. Mansur Alfanla.

According to Alfanla, the 20 new professors were elevated from the position of reader, while 31 senior lecturers were promoted to the rank of reader.

“These promotions followed recommendations from the Appointments and Promotions Committee (A&PC) of UNILORIN, as presented during the council’s meeting on January 27 by the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Wahab Egbewole,” he explained.

At its 186th meeting, the A&PC reviewed the recommendations arising from the 2024 promotion exercise, which considered eligible academic staff members for advancement to the positions of professor and reader.

Among the newly appointed professors are Olufunmilayo Abiodun and Fausat Kolawole from the Department of Home Economics and Food Science; A.S. Afolabi from the Department of History and International Studies; K.T. Omopupa from the Department of Library and Information Science; L.K. Mustapha and Kehinde Kadir from the Department of Mass Communication; and A.O. Akanbi from the Department of Science Education, among others.

The 31 newly appointed readers include Dr. S.O. Akanbi from the Department of Agricultural Economics and Farm Management, Dr. A.O. Dauda from the Department of Home Economics and Food Science, and Dr. Folusho Bankole from the Department of Agronomy, among others.
