Abuja, Nigeria — The Board of Trustees (BoT) of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) convened for its 79th meeting on Wednesday, January 29, 2025, where critical assessments of both the state of the party and the nation were discussed.

The meeting, chaired by Senator Adolphus Wabara, addressed several pressing issues within the party and the broader political landscape.

A primary concern raised during the meeting was the ongoing crisis within the National Working Committee (NWC). The BoT expressed its deep concern over the unresolved disputes and divisions within the NWC and called on all members, as well as other party stakeholders, to rise above personal or sectional interests for the greater good of the party.

The BoT particularly emphasized the need for unity and stability within the PDP, urging all involved parties to prioritize the party’s ideals and long-term goals. In light of the crisis surrounding the position of the National Secretary, which is currently under judicial review, a committee was formed, headed by Barr Kabiru Tanimu Turaki SAN, to address the matter and provide further recommendations.

On the national front, the BoT voiced grave concerns over the worsening economic and security situations in the country. The board criticized the policies of the current All Progressives Congress (APC) administration, accusing it of mismanagement and insensitivity to the hardships faced by ordinary Nigerians. The BoT particularly took issue with the increasing cost of living, citing hikes in fuel prices, electricity tariffs, and telecommunication charges.

Additionally, the BoT criticized the APC for failing to implement effective policies to stabilize the economy or stimulate growth, calling on the government to reverse its “anti-people” decisions and adopt measures to revive the productive sector, create jobs, and alleviate poverty.

In its closing remarks, the BoT extended condolences to Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo State over the loss of his elder brother and to Governor Bala Mohammed of Bauchi State over the passing of his stepmother.

Despite internal challenges and national turmoil, the BoT reaffirmed its commitment to the unity and progress of the PDP, assuring members and Nigerians that the party remains strong, cohesive, and focused on advancing democratic values and the wellbeing of the nation. The meeting also confirmed that the PDP’s National Executive Committee (NEC) will convene as scheduled in February 2025 to further address critical issues.
