The Broadcasting Organization of Nigeria (BON) has commended the Nigerian Armed Forces for their impressive strides in combating insecurity across the country. This acknowledgement follows the continuous victories recorded in the fight against insurgency, banditry, and other security challenges.

During a courtesy visit to the Minister of Defence at Ship House, Abuja, BON Vice-Chairman, Tony Akiotu, who represented the BON Chairman and Director General of the Nigerian Television Authority (NTA), Salihu Dembos, praised the efforts of the Minister of Defence, Mohammed Badaru Abubakar, in supporting the military’s successful operations.

Akiotu noted that the new collaboration between the Ministry of Defence and security agencies has been instrumental in curbing insurgency and banditry. “As a leading media body with members across over 500 licensed TV and radio stations nationwide, we have observed the continued successes of the Armed Forces in neutralizing insurgents and arresting high-profile bandits. The use of both kinetic and non-kinetic strategies has been highly effective,” Akiotu stated.

He further applauded the sacrifices made by the Nigerian military to ensure peace and security, acknowledging the significant role the Ministry of Defence has played in driving these victories. Akiotu also congratulated the Minister for appointing former Managing Director of Jigawa State Radio, Mati Ali, as Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, noting that Ali’s experience has helped to enhance the visibility of the Ministry’s activities nationwide.

In his response, Minister of Defence Mohammed Badaru Abubakar expressed his appreciation for the media’s role in informing the public and shaping national conversations on security. He highlighted the remarkable progress made by the Armed Forces, noting that insurgents and high-profile bandits are being neutralized, restoring peace and confidence in affected areas.

“Our Armed Forces have shown unwavering commitment to addressing the security challenges facing the country. Security breaches have significantly reduced, thanks to enhanced military operations and collaboration with other security agencies,” Badaru said. He emphasized the importance of both military action and strategic partnerships in achieving these results.

The Minister further expressed readiness to work closely with BON in areas such as training and capacity building for broadcast media, recognizing the media as a key partner in promoting national security objectives. “Together, we can harness the power of radio and television to inform, educate, and promote peace and stability,” he added.

This visit underscores the shared commitment between the Ministry of Defence and the media in fostering a secure and peaceful Nigeria.
