The Sokoto State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB), in collaboration with the European Union (EU) and UNICEF, commemorated the 2026 International Day of Play with a colourful event at Yahaya Abdulkarim Model Primary School, Sokoto.
The event brought together education stakeholders, development partners, government officials, teachers, and pupils to celebrate the role of play in children’s learning, development, and overall well-being.
Speaking at the occasion, education experts and officials highlighted the significance of the International Day of Play, describing play as a fundamental right of every child and an essential tool for learning, creativity, social interaction, and healthy development.
They stressed the need for governments, schools, parents, and communities to create safe and inclusive environments where children can learn and grow through play.
The celebration featured a variety of recreational and interactive activities designed to promote teamwork, creativity, and active participation among pupils.
The atmosphere was filled with excitement as the children enjoyed music and entertainment, dancing joyfully to the admiration of guests and other participants.
Highlights of the event included music, cultural performances, interactive sessions, and opportunities for children to engage freely with their peers in a friendly and supportive environment.
