The Governorship Candidate of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) in Sokoto state, Manir Muhammad Dan’Iya, has expressed deep sorrow over recent violent attacks in Dan Gulbi community of Tureta LGA and Gangara and Dan Tasakko communities of Sabon Birnin Local Government Area, which reportedly left more than 60 people dead and forced residents of over 17 communities to flee their homes.
In a statement issued through his Media Aide, Aminu Abdullahi, Dan’Iya described the incidents as a tragic development that underscores the worsening security situation in parts of Sokoto State.
He extended condolences to the families of the victims, injured persons, displaced residents, traditional institutions, and the government and people of Sokoto State, praying for divine mercy for the deceased and comfort for those affected.
Dan’Iya stressed that the persistent attacks calls for the urgent need for stronger action against banditry and other violent crimes, warning that no society can thrive where citizens live in fear.
He noted that the protection of lives and property remains a fundamental responsibility of government and called for a more coordinated and sustained response to insecurity.
The ADC candidate urged security agencies to intensify operations in the affected areas, improve intelligence gathering, strengthen inter-agency collaboration, and ensure that perpetrators are brought to justice.
He also advocated deeper community engagement and increased support for frontline security personnel, emphasizing that lasting peace requires collective effort among government institutions, security agencies, traditional leaders, and local communities.
Dan’Iya further appealed to residents to remain vigilant and cooperate with security agencies by providing timely and credible information that could aid ongoing operations.
He reaffirmed his commitment to supporting initiatives aimed at strengthening security, promoting social cohesion, and improving welfare, noting that sustainable development can only be achieved in an atmosphere of peace and stability.
