The African Democratic Congress (ADC) governorship candidate in Sokoto State, Manir Muhammad Dan’iya (Walin Sokoto), has reaffirmed his commitment to improving education, child welfare and learning environments across the state.
In a statement by his media aide, Aminu Abdullahi, to mark the 2026 Children’s Day celebration, Dan’iya extended warm greetings to children in Sokoto and across Nigeria, describing them as the nation’s future and its greatest asset for sustainable development. He urged society to prioritize children’s protection, education, health and moral upbringing.
“Children are not only the leaders of tomorrow; they are the hope of today,” he said. “The investment we make in their education, health and welfare will determine the future strength, stability and prosperity of our society.”
Dan’iya called on children to remain focused on their studies, respect parents and teachers, and embrace discipline, honesty and hard work. He promised that, if elected governor in 2027, his administration would place children’s welfare and education at the centre of government policy.
Among his proposals, Dan’iya pledged to provide free and accessible education from primary school to university, upgrade school facilities to meet global standards, and equip institutions with qualified teachers and modern learning tools. He also announced plans for an “E-Smart Education” initiative to integrate digital technology into classroom learning and prepare students for a technology-driven economy.
The ADC candidate highlighted the problem of out-of-school children and promised targeted programs to return thousands of children to classrooms across Sokoto’s 23 local government areas. He stated that his administration would pursue strategic partnerships with international development agencies and foreign educational institutions to enhance the state’s education and child development sectors.
On healthcare, Dan’iya promised expanded and improved child health services in all 23 local government areas to ensure broader access to quality medical care and welfare support.
Addressing insecurity, he warned that violence and fear undermine school attendance and child safety. “No meaningful development can take place where children live in fear or are denied access to education because of insecurity,” he said, adding that protecting children and securing learning environments would be a top priority under his leadership.
He also urged parents and guardians to continue guiding and monitoring their children so they can grow into responsible citizens.
Dan’iya concluded by wishing children in Sokoto and across Nigeria a peaceful and joyful Children’s Day and praying for a brighter future for every Nigerian child.
