The Arewa Youth Vanguard has reacted to recent comments by a chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Niger State, Jonathan Vatsa, regarding the political relevance of former Kaduna State Governor, Nasir El-Rufai.

In a statement signed by its National Secretary, Aliyu Suleman Jatau, the group commended Vatsa for his position but said El-Rufai’s legacy should be assessed in terms of accountability rather than political influence.

The group alleged that during El-Rufai’s administration, several policies negatively affected the welfare of citizens, including the demolition of homes and markets, which left many people displaced without compensation. It also raised concerns over the state’s rising debt profile under his leadership.

Furthermore, the statement accused the former governor of mishandling issues of insecurity and violence in Southern Kaduna, alleging that his approach and rhetoric contributed to worsening tensions in the area.

The Arewa Youth Vanguard therefore called on Nigerian political leaders to avoid associating with the former governor, while also urging the International Criminal Court (ICC) to examine the violence in Southern Kaduna during his tenure and determine accountability.

The group stated that the people of Kaduna State are now experiencing relief under the current administration of Governor Uba Sani, which it said has focused on people-oriented projects and restoring peace.
