The Niger State Government has reiterated its readiness to collaborate with organizations, particularly tribal groups, including the Fulani community to advance peaceful coexistence across the state.
Deputy Governor Yakubu Garba gave the assurance during the second anniversary celebration of Pastoralists Day (Yanlde Fulbe), organized by the state Ministry of Nomadic and Pastoral Affairs on Saturday at the UK Bello Arts Theatre, Minna.
Garba stressed that peace and unity remain critical for development, affirming the state’s willingness to work closely with the Fulani community to strengthen harmony.
“I am impressed with the coming together of the Fulanis. I like this unity because our whole strength lies in our unity. Without peace, there is no development and no progress in any aspect of life,” he said.
He commended the decision of the Fulani community to set aside 23rd August annually to mark the creation of the Ministry of Nomadic and Pastoral Affairs, describing it as a historic initiative that future generations will appreciate. The deputy governor also lauded the Fulanis for supporting Governor Mohammed Umar Bago before and after the 2023 elections, urging them to sustain the relationship ahead of 2027.
Also speaking, the Commissioner for Nomadic and Pastoral Affairs, Umar Sanda Rebe, said the Fulani community has every reason to celebrate because the present administration has given them a sense of belonging. He emphasized that the community remains committed to supporting both President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and Governor Bago in 2027, just as they did in 2023.
In his remarks after receiving an award from the Fulani political organization Bago Ruga-Ruga, the Executive Director of Niger Foods and Logistics Company, Mr. Ola Oloyede, was represented by Programme Coordinator, Engr. Bashiru Tanko said the recognition was well deserved. He noted that the company has been engaging the nomadic population through mechanized farming, particularly pepper and other cash crops, to lift them out of poverty.
Other speakers, including the Commissioner for Agriculture, Salihu Bawa Bosso, the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Nomadic and Pastoral Affairs, and the Director General of Nomadic Affairs, Ardo Abdullahi Babayo, commended Governor Bago for his commitment to equity, inclusion, peacebuilding, and sustainable development. They said the administration’s approach has become a rallying point for unity and recognition of the vital roles of the nomadic people in the state.
