The Kano State Government, under the leadership of Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf, has contributed N10 million to the Kano Emblem Appeal Fund to support fallen heroes in the state
The donation was announced at the 2025 Emblem Appeal Fund launch, held on Monday at Coronation Hall, Government House, Kano, as part of activities marking the 2025 Armed Forces Remembrance Day.
A statement issued by the Director of Public Enlightenment, Kano Government House, Usman Gwadabe revealed that Governor Yusuf personally donated N2 million to the fund.
Furthermore, the state’s 44 Local Government Areas collectively contributed an additional N10 million to the cause.
Represented by the Director-General of Special Services, AVM Ibrahim Umaru (rtd), Governor Yusuf expressed profound appreciation for the sacrifices made by the fallen heroes. He also recognized the efforts of those currently engaged in internal security operations, particularly the fight against insurgency, terrorism, and armed banditry across the country.
The governor reiterated his administration’s commitment to prioritizing the security of lives and property in Kano, ensuring the state retains its reputation as one of the most peaceful in the country.
Governor Yusuf also urged stakeholders to support initiatives led by the Nigeria Legion, especially in areas like transportation, agriculture, and housing development, to enhance the welfare of veterans and their families.
Additionally, he encouraged the people of Kano and Nigerians nationwide to purchase and wear the emblems with pride, as a mark of respect for those who paid the ultimate sacrifice for the nation’s peace and unity.
AVM Umaru (rtd), on his part, personally donated N300,000 to the fund. He further appealed to the government and philanthropic individuals to assist veterans through empowerment programs, the rehabilitation of the State Legion’s Secretariat, and other welfare-enhancing initiatives.
In his remarks, the state Chairman of the Nigeria Legion, Army Warrant Officer (AWO) Kabiru Isyaku, expressed gratitude to all donors and assured them of the judicious use of the funds raised.
During the event, the Nigerian Army, Air Force, and Navy each donated N500,000, while the Nigeria Police Force and the Department of State Services contributed N250,000 each.
Other donations included N100,000 each from the NSCDC, the Nigeria Immigration Service, and the Commandant of the State Taskforce on Phone Snatching and Drug Abuse, Brig. Gen. Gambo Ahmad Mai Adu’a (rtd).
