The Senate of Usmanu Danfodiyo University, Sokoto (UDUS), has approved an amnesty programme for students who have overstayed their academic duration, offering them a final opportunity to complete their studies.
The decision was made at the university’s 369th Senate meeting held on Wednesday, May 7, 2025. According to a statement issued by the Director of Academic Affairs, S.O. Abuh, the amnesty applies to students who exceeded their permitted study period between the 2014/2015 and 2024/2025 academic sessions.
The initiative will take effect during the 2025/2026 academic session and only applies to students who have not exceeded the maximum allowable units per session. Affected students are advised to immediately contact their respective departments for proper guidance on how to proceed.
“This amnesty reflects the university’s commitment to giving deserving students a second chance while maintaining academic standards,” Abuh stated in the memo.
The move is expected to benefit a significant number of students who, for various reasons, could not complete their academic programs within the stipulated timeframe.
Students in this category are urged to act swiftly and ensure they meet departmental requirements to benefit from the opportunity.
For further information, students are encouraged to liaise directly with their faculty offices.
