President Bola Tinubu arrived in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania, to attend the Mission 300 Africa Energy Summit, scheduled to commence on January 27. The President’s plane touched down at 10:20 p.m. local time (8:20 p.m. Nigerian time) and was warmly received by Tanzania’s Foreign Minister, Amb. Mahmoud Thabit Kombo, and Nigeria’s Chargé d’Affaires to Tanzania, Amb. Salisu Suleiman.
The two-day summit, jointly hosted by the Tanzanian government, the African Union, the African Development Bank Group, and the World Bank Group, aims to address Africa’s energy challenges and advance universal energy access.
The first day will feature ministerial-level discussions where participating countries, including Nigeria, will present their national energy strategies—referred to as energy compacts—outlining their plans to achieve universal energy access within the next five years.
On the second day, African heads of state will endorse the Dar es Salaam Energy Declaration, which will chart a unified roadmap for achieving the Mission 300 objectives of universal energy access across the continent.
President Tinubu is expected to deliver a national statement reaffirming Nigeria’s commitment to achieving universal energy access and showcasing the country’s leadership role in Africa’s energy sector.
He will also spotlight Nigeria’s clean energy initiatives and its strategy to foster integrated energy delivery systems across the continent.
The President is accompanied by a high-level delegation, including Amb. Bianca Odumegwu-Ojukwu, Minister of State for Foreign Affairs Mr. Adebayo Adelabu, Minister of Power Mr. Olu Verheijen, Special Adviser on Energy, and other senior government officials.
