Sokoto, Nigeria – The Sokoto Adolescent Girls Initiative for Learning and Empowerment (AGILE) project has called for enhanced collaboration with the Ministry of Information and Orientation to amplify its impact across the state.
Mansur Isa Buhari, the Project Coordinator, made the appeal during a visit to the Ministry, underscoring the crucial role of effective communication in achieving the project’s goals.
“We believe that effective communication is key to the success of our project. The Ministry of Information is our most strategic partner in ensuring that the people of Sokoto are informed and engaged in the important educational initiatives we are working on,” Buhari said.
Launched in August 2023, the AGILE project focuses on empowering adolescent girls through education and skills development. In its initial phase, the initiative has recorded notable achievements but acknowledges the need for greater community engagement as it enters its second year.
During his visit, Buhari praised the Ministry for its ongoing support, particularly the role of media professionals in raising awareness about AGILE’s objectives. He urged the Ministry to strengthen this collaboration in 2025 by incorporating communication and media activities into the project’s plans, including training local journalists to report on issues related to girls’ education.
“We aim to build the capacity of our media professionals to report effectively on the challenges and opportunities in girls’ education. This will ensure that critical issues affecting our communities are communicated clearly and effectively,” Buhari said.
The Commissioner of Information and Orientation, Sambo Bello Danchadi, assured Buhari of the Ministry’s full support. He highlighted AGILE’s significant contributions, including its impactful radio program on Vision FM, which addresses girls’ education and sanitation.
“I have been closely following your activities and am impressed by the positive changes you’ve brought to Sokoto. We are fully committed to supporting your efforts and will work with you to ensure the project reaches its full potential,” Danchadi said.
The Ministry’s Permanent Secretary, Ibrahim Muhammad K, also pledged continued assistance, emphasizing the importance of reshaping public perceptions through targeted information dissemination. He assured the AGILE team that state-owned media platforms would be utilized to amplify their messages.
“We will ensure the widest possible reach for your messages, especially through radio, so they touch every corner of the state,” Muhammad said.
The AGILE project, a five-year initiative, aims to create sustainable educational opportunities for adolescent girls in Sokoto State. With strengthened ties to the Ministry of Information, the project hopes to achieve lasting empowerment for women and girls while addressing key community challenges.
