Northwest University Sokoto holds orientation for new medical students

The College of Health Sciences of the Northwest University Sokoto (NWUS), has organized a one-day orientation programme for its new medical students as part of efforts to guide them into their professional and academic journey.

A statement by the Public Relations Officer of the University, Abdallah el-Kurebe, the orientation, which took place on Friday, September 26, 2025, was approved and supported by the Vice Chancellor of the University, Prof. Mukhtar Umar Bunza, who is widely recognised for his innovative leadership in advancing academic standards at the institution.

Declaring the programme open, the Provost of the College of Health Sciences, Prof. Muhammad Umar, delivered the first presentation titled “Ethics and Dressing Code for Medical Professionals.”

He emphasized the importance of discipline, professionalism, and the ethical values that must guide students as they prepare for careers in medicine. Prof. Umar also highlighted that medical student must portray themselves in ways that reflect the dignity and trust expected of the profession.

In his presentation, the Director of the College, Dr. Jamil Lukman Ahmad, focused on “Examination Rules and Regulations.” He took the students through the university’s academic policies, stressing the need for strict adherence to rules governing assessments, honesty in examinations, and academic integrity.

In his goodwill message, the Vice Chancellor, Prof. Mukhtar Umar Bunza reaffirmed the university’s commitment to nurturing competent, ethical, and globally competitive health professionals. “I encouraged you to take full advantage of the learning environment and resources available to them at the university”, he said.

The orientation was attended by faculty members, administrative staff, and the newly admitted students, who expressed appreciation for the guidance and pledged to uphold the values imparted during the programme.
