The Kebbi State Government has fulfilled a key promise made by Governor Nasir Idris by regularising the appointments of 233 casual staff, converting them into permanent and pensionable employees. This milestone marks a significant step in the administration’s commitment to improving job security for workers in the state.
The decision to regularise these appointments follows a commitment made by Governor Idris during the BBC Hausa program, “A Fada Acika.” During the program, a casual worker from Sir Yahaya Memorial Hospital in Birnin Kebbi appealed for the regularisation of casual staff within the civil service. Governor Idris responded positively, promising to address the issue.
Speaking at the formal presentation of employment letters to the 233 workers on Tuesday, the Commissioner for Health, Comrade Yunusa Musa Ismail, praised the governor for fulfilling his promise. He noted that the workers, from Sir Yahaya Memorial Hospital in Birnin Kebbi and Kebbi Medical Centre in Kalgo, have now received their permanent employment letters.
“If you recall, on January 1st of this year, Governor Nasir Idris was the Special Guest at an interactive session on the BBC Hausa program ‘A Fada Acika,’ where he made several promises,” Ismail said. “Today, he has fulfilled the last of those promises by regularizing the employment of casual workers.”
The Health Commissioner emphasized the historical significance of the event and expressed gratitude to Governor Idris for his generosity. He encouraged the newly regularised staff to recommit themselves to delivering excellent service.
Comrade Yunusa Musa Ismail also thanked the screening committee, led by the Head of Service, Safiyanu Garba Bena, and co-chaired by Shafiu Zauro, Special Adviser to the Governor on Special Duties, for their diligent work in ensuring a fair process.
In his remarks, Shafiu Zauro, co-chairman of the screening committee, thanked Governor Idris for his trust in the committee. He revealed that the screening process involved 233 casual staff—138 from Sir Yahaya Memorial Hospital and 98 from Kebbi Medical Center in Kalgo—all of whom have now been granted permanent employment.
Zauro advised the newly regularised workers to remain loyal and diligent in their duties and prayed for the success of Governor Idris’s administration.
Yakubu Ahmed, the Commissioner for Information and Culture, also commended Governor Idris for keeping his promises, highlighting that today’s event was not just about regularising employment but also about upholding commitments made during the “A Fada Acika” program.
Ahmed further outlined other promises fulfilled by Governor Idris, including the establishment of a Commission for Persons with Disabilities, the appointment of five Special Assistants with disabilities, the construction of a primary school in Malala Quarters, the free distribution of 6,000 water pumps to farmers, and the regular provision of drugs to the Zauro Psychiatric Hospital. He also noted the governor’s efforts in modernising and digitalising Kebbi Radio and Kebbi Television.
The Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Health, Dr. Shehu Nuhu Koko, expressed his gratitude to Governor Idris for prioritising the health sector. He also highlighted the numerous achievements recorded by the Ministry of Health under the current administration.
