Kano State Governor, Abba Kabir Yusuf, has directed all four state Emirates to begin preparations for the Sallah Durbar Celebration to ensure citizens and visitors fully enjoy the festive period.
This directive was contained in a statement issued by the Governor’s spokesperson, Sanusi Bature Dawakin Tofa, following a Ramadan breakfast meeting with the Emirs at the Ante Chamber, Government House, Kano, on Tuesday.
According to the statement, Governor Yusuf emphasized that the people of the state eagerly anticipate the tradition of wearing new clothes on Sallah Day, lining the streets to witness their Emirs on horseback, and exchanging greetings.
He affirmed that his administration will not relent and will not allow any adversaries to deprive citizens of this cherished right.
Governor Yusuf assured the public that all security agencies in the state would be engaged to provide adequate protection during the celebration.
He also disclosed that the Kano State Emirate Council will be inaugurated in April to enable it to function effectively. The council’s guidelines, ethics, and other crucial components will be communicated on the day of the inauguration.
The governor commended the Emirs for their maturity and positive relationship since their appointments, noting that this marks the first time in the state’s history that absolute respect among the Emirs, particularly in terms of hierarchy, has been maintained.
In response, the Chairman of the Kano Emirate Council, Muhammadu Sanusi II, affirmed that his relationship with the second-class Emirs is exceptionally cordial.
He urged Governor Yusuf to leverage traditional institutions to effectively disseminate policies and programs to the grassroots for seamless and efficient implementation.
The Emir of Karaye, Muhammad Muhammad Maharaz; the Emir of Rano, Amb. Muhammad Isa Umaru; and the Emir of Gaya, Dr. Aliyu Ibrahim Abdulkadir, on behalf of their people, expressed gratitude to Governor Yusuf for providing fertilizer and improving education, health, and road infrastructure in their respective domains.
