Nigeria’s Minister of Defence, Mohammed Badaru Abubakar, has reaffirmed the country’s strong commitment to supporting the efforts of the United Nations and its humanitarian partners working across the nation.
Speaking during a courtesy visit by the UN Resident and Humanitarian Coordinator, Mr. Mohamed Malick Fall, at his office in Ship House, Abuja, Badaru described the meeting as “long overdue” and underscored the importance of renewed coordination, collaboration, and sustainable development.
He called for the revitalization of long-standing partnerships and urged both parties to build on previous gains, especially in key areas such as health, water and sanitation, education, and livelihood support.
Reflecting on his time as Governor, Badaru shared how healthy competition and benchmarking among states had accelerated progress in areas like water access, healthcare, and poverty reduction. “When we competed to improve the lives of our people, we saw real impact,” he noted.
In his response, Mr. Malick Fall commended the Minister’s leadership and reaffirmed the UN’s readiness to deepen collaboration with both federal and state institutions to strengthen humanitarian and development outcomes across Nigeria.
Their discussion also touched on establishing pilot service delivery models, enhancing cooperation among technical teams, and working closely with security agencies to ensure humanitarian efforts reach those most in need.
