The Minister of Defence, Mohammed Badaru Abubakar, has directed the Nigerian Air Force (NAF) to intensify efforts to dominate the airspace to help end insecurity in Nigeria, particularly in the Northwest region.
During a visit to the 213 Forward Operating Base in Katsina State, the Minister emphasized the Federal Government’s support, stating, “We are deploying additional platforms, including attack helicopters and drones, to enhance your capabilities to eliminate bandits and terrorists.”
He reassured the troops of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s commitment to ending insecurity, adding, “Mr President is pleased with your progress and will ensure you have the necessary equipment and support for your welfare.”
On a timeline for ending insecurity, the Minister firmly stated, “End it now, please. End insecurity now.”
Earlier, the Minister addressed senior officers and personnel at FOB Zurmi and Gurbi Baure, commending their dedication. “I have seen you, fully charged and focused. The progress we’re seeing shows your capacity and determination to end this threat. We thank you for your efforts so far. In recent months, your commitment has shown consistent progress, and I believe insecurity will end soon.”
He further praised the state governments of Zamfara and Katsina for their collaboration with the federal government in the fight against insecurity.
“The states are cooperating effectively. Earlier this week, we held a meeting with the governors of Katsina and Zamfara, as well as the National Security Adviser, to strategize on how to end insecurity in the North-West. With the new command and public support, we are confident insecurity will soon be eradicated.”
