The Shiroro Local Government Area Health Department in Niger State has announced the commencement of the In-Between Round Activities (IBRA) for Routine Immunisation (RI) and Polio Vaccination across 14 wards in the area.
The exercise is scheduled to begin on Saturday, August 15, 2026, and end on Tuesday, August 18, followed by a two-day mop-up exercise on August 19 and 20 to ensure that all eligible children are reached.
According to the Health Department, the exercise is part of ongoing efforts to strengthen routine immunisation and protect children against vaccine-preventable diseases.
Children aged zero to 23 months are targeted for routine immunisation, while all children aged zero to 59 months will be eligible for the polio vaccination.
Vaccination teams will conduct house-to-house vaccination, while town announcers will also inform residents about designated fixed vaccination posts where parents and caregivers can take their children.
The exercise will cover 14 wards in Shiroro Local Government Area, with She/Gunu Ward excluded after achieving its vaccination target during the previous round.
The Health Educator, Aminu Saleh, urged parents and caregivers to cooperate with vaccination teams by making eligible children available for the exercise.
Saleh said immunisation remained one of the safest and most effective ways of protecting children against polio and other vaccine-preventable diseases.
He also called on traditional and religious leaders, youth and women groups, and other community stakeholders to mobilise residents and encourage parents to take advantage of the free vaccination services.
The Health Department assured residents that the vaccines are safe, effective and provided free of charge, stressing the need for collective efforts to ensure that no eligible child is left behind.
