The management of Usmanu Danfodiyo University, Sokoto (UDUS), has pledged to strengthen collaboration with the Sokoto State Chapter of the Nigerian Institute of Public Relations (NIPR) to promote professionalism and ethical public communication.

Speaking on Thursday during a courtesy visit by the NIPR delegation, the Vice Chancellor of UDUS, Professor Garba Bashir, expressed the university’s readiness to partner with the institute in areas that enhance institutional reputation and capacity building.

Professor Bashir emphasized that his administration attaches great importance to the university’s image and reputation, adding that effective collaboration with the NIPR aligns with UDUS’s commitment to excellence and transparency.

“In demonstration of our commitment to institutional reputation, when I assumed office, I discovered that the Department of Mass Communication was operating in a temporary structure. We have therefore awarded a contract for the construction of a storey building to house the department, with the goal of upgrading it to a full-fledged faculty in the near future,” he said.

The Vice Chancellor commended NIPR’s dynamism and educational contributions to public communication, assuring that UDUS is open to meaningful partnerships that promote professional development and ethical standards.

Earlier, the Chairman of the Sokoto State Chapter of NIPR, Mohammed Sada Suleiman, said the visit was aimed at fostering collaboration between the university and the institute in advancing public relations practice in the state.

He described NIPR as a unique profession dedicated to building and maintaining mutual understanding in all spheres of human interaction, emphasizing the importance of both interpersonal and intergovernmental relations.

Suleiman appealed for UDUS’s support in areas such as professional development programmes, membership drives, and joint research and publications.
