Senator Aliyu Magatakarda Wamakko, representing Sokoto North Senatorial District, has launched the second phase of his empowerment programme, aimed at improving the livelihoods of his constituents in Sokoto North, Sokoto South, Wamakko, and Kware Local Government Areas.
The flag-off, held in Kware, featured the distribution of 200 electric-powered tricycles, 1,000 bags of 50kg rice for each of the four LGAs, and 200 motorcycles allocated to ward chairmen, women leaders, social media coordinators, and traditional leaders. The programme also includes sewing and grinding machines to promote self-reliance among women and create job opportunities.
Speaking on behalf of the senator, APC youth leader Alhaji Nasiru Italy noted that the initiative has already reached eight local governments, with plans to extend to the remaining 15 across the state, reflecting Wamakko’s commitment to widespread empowerment.
Deputy Speaker of the Sokoto State House of Assembly, Alhaji Kabiru Ibrahim Kware, commended Wamakko’s leadership, describing the initiative as unmatched in the region. He highlighted the unprecedented scale of rice distribution, noting that over 4,000 bags had been shared—an act rarely witnessed from any politician in recent history.
Also speaking, APC Vice Chairman for Sokoto Central Zone, Alh. Yahaya Buhari Siriddawa, remarked that Sokoto people had not seen such philanthropy in more than three decades, stressing that it signalled rapid development under Wamakko’s leadership.
Other dignitaries, including Kware Local Government Chairman Ibrahim Attahiru Ruggar Gwiwa, House of Assembly member Ibrahim Dust, and Commissioner for Skill Acquisition and Entrepreneurship Abba Muhammad Mu’alledi, expressed gratitude to the senator, prayed for his success, and urged beneficiaries to use the items for their intended purpose.
Beneficiaries, drawn from men, women, and local government social media teams, lauded the gesture, saying the tricycles and food items would boost their economic wellbeing.
Senator Wamakko’s empowerment programme, according to his aides, is designed not just to distribute items but to foster self-sufficiency, improve quality of life, and strengthen grassroots development in Sokoto State.
