Oluremi Tinubu, on Tuesday launched the Women Economic Empowerment Programme in Niger State, reaffirming her commitment to grassroots development through female entrepreneurship.
The event, held under the Renewed Hope Initiative, was organised in partnership with the Tony Elumelu Foundation and marks a significant step towards boosting financial independence for women across the state.
Addressing participants during the flag-off ceremony, Mrs Tinubu underscored the importance of empowering women as key players in Nigeria’s development.
“This initiative is more than just financial assistance — it’s a pathway to inclusive economic growth. Our women deserve the opportunity to thrive, and this platform is here to support that journey,” she said.
Mrs Fatima Mohammed Bago, wife of the Niger State Governor and host of the event, welcomed the First Lady and praised her commitment to uplifting women. She described the programme as a timely intervention that would positively impact thousands of households across the state.
While only a limited number of beneficiaries received the ₦50,000 grant at the launch, organisers assured that many more women across all 25 local government areas would benefit in the coming phases. Several women-led small businesses were also showcased at the event, highlighting the entrepreneurial spirit within the state.
The partnership with the Tony Elumelu Foundation is expected to expand access to funding, business training, and mentorship for women, aligning with national efforts to promote economic inclusion and self-reliance.
Traditional leaders and other stakeholders present at the ceremony commended the initiative and pledged their continued support to ensure its long-term success at the grassroots.
