The Commissioner of Police in Niger State, CP Abdullahi Adamu Elleman, has been urged to urgently order the arrest of the District Head of Ekugi village in Katcha Local Government Area, Abdullahi Kaffa, for allegedly masterminding the brutal killing of one Mohammed Baba Mohammed.
Mohammed Baba, who had just completed his National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) in Enugu State in May 2025, was reportedly killed shortly after returning to his hometown.
In a petition submitted to the Commissioner of Police by a Minna-based legal practitioner, Olukunle Oluwole, and copied to our correspondent, it was alleged that Abdullahi Kaffa led over 20 armed individuals to Ekugi village on July 25, 2025. The group reportedly shot the deceased multiple times until he died.
According to the petitioner, the attackers were armed with dangerous weapons such as cutlasses, axes, and dane guns, and were chanting war songs in the presence of the traditional ruler.
“Upon sighting the rampaging invaders, villagers — including women, children, youth, and the elderly — fled in panic for their lives,” the petition stated. “In the process, the invaders attacked and killed Mohammed Baba Mohammed, who had just finished serving his fatherland, as well as members of his family, while they were working on their farm.”
The lawyer further alleged that one Baba Ali Matu ordered Suleiman Saidu Gbapo to shoot Mohammed Baba at close range. After he fell, his body was reportedly riddled with bullets to ensure his death.
Oluwole stressed that the deceased was innocent and had committed no crime. “His life was unjustly cut short,” he said.
Other victims who sustained varying degrees of injuries during the attack are reportedly receiving treatment at different healthcare centres.
The petitioner also alleged that the attackers looted six Bajaj motorcycles, stole 200 bags of rice, destroyed a warehouse, and carted away ₦700,000 in local government revenue. Additionally, they allegedly stole ₦1.5 million belonging to Ibrahim Baba Mohammed, an elder brother of the deceased.
Despite these atrocities, the petition stated that the affected community has been advised to remain calm and avoid any form of reprisal attack.
“The attackers still go around threatening people and boasting that they have the backing of influential individuals in the Niger State government and Abuja. But no one is above the law,” the lawyer asserted.
He called on the police and relevant authorities to urgently intervene to prevent further bloodshed and displacement of residents from their ancestral land.
