Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf of Kano State has condemned in strong terms the brutal murder of two young Kano indigenes, Barhama Suleiman and Jamilu Ahmad, who were attacked and killed by unknown assailants in Makurdi, Benue State.
In a statement issued by his spokesperson, Sunusi Bature Dawakin Tofa, the victims were allegedly profiled and attacked around 11:00 p.m. on Monday by yet-to-be-identified hoodlums, and murdered in cold blood without provocation.
Describing the incident as “barbaric, senseless, and unacceptable,” Governor Yusuf expressed profound grief over the tragic loss and vowed to ensure the perpetrators are brought to justice.
“It is with a heavy heart and deep sense of loss that we announce the passing of two promising sons of Kano. They were innocent, peace-loving citizens whose only crime was exercising their constitutional right to live and work in any part of Nigeria,” the governor stated.
Governor Yusuf announced that he would personally lead a high-powered delegation, including members of the victims’ families, to attend the funeral prayers at the National Mosque in Abuja today, June 24.
The governor also extended heartfelt condolences to Sheikh Ibrahim Khalil, a respected Islamic scholar and father of the deceased.
“This is not just a personal tragedy for the affected families but a loss to the entire Kano State and Nigeria at large,” he added.
Governor Yusuf assured the public that his administration is working closely with security agencies and the Benue State Government to investigate the incident and ensure those responsible face the full weight of the law.
“We call for calm and restraint. Nigeria belongs to all of us, and every citizen has the right to live, move, and thrive in any part of this country without fear of discrimination or violence,” he said.
The Kano State Government reiterated its commitment to the safety and protection of its citizens wherever they reside and urged all residents to remain peaceful and law-abiding as investigations continue.
