A new political hara-kiri has begun in Kaduna State where a Godfather and son (Nasir El-Rufai/Uba Sani) are about to part ways, less than a year after the change of baton. The scenario is akin to a situation of when you Dabo me, I Tarka you of the Second Republic politics in Nigeria.

By Tajudeen A Tijjani

Today, the current occupier of Sir Kasihm Ibrahim House, Kaduna, Mr. Uba Sani has dragged his boss, former governor Nasiru Ahmed Elrufai to the cleaners. What the action will deliver is unpredictable.

After Governor Uba Sani cried that the government is bleeding and poor, because of a loan obtained by the former governor, the state assembly quickly came to the public, that base on the governor revelation, a Panel mooted to find out the cause, and Mallam Nasiru Ahmed Elrufai must be asked to explain. Uba Sani has dragged Nasiru Ahmed Elrufai to people’s court and the public are waiting.

While opinions differ on the development, there are those who believe that the action of Governor Uba Sani is diversionary, and there are those in support. One school said obtaining loan is part of governance, and Kaduna cannot be an exception, adding that the action is in bad faith. ‘the next four years will be used in pursuing the unnecessary, he added.

The current government should also tell the people what they have been able to achieve under one year, having heared, that it has also collected loans and apart from all the money from the Federal Government in almost one year in office. The government has not come forward to explain to the people. There are those who alleged that the assembly panel will come to nothing, and only to waste money.

They argued that the only place to drag the past administration to, is either, the ICPC or the EFCC with all evidences of alleged infractions, that must be proved, beyond reasonable doubts. To open any Pandora box now, is like shooting one on the foot. It will create a situation, where hired hands and spigots will have a field day to rubbish the two sides.

Care must apply, so that the move will not be seen as an exercise in vengeance or tranny, aim at hanging Mallam Nasiru with the help of Uba Sani new find political friends. Bitterness should not be enough to discard memory, had Mallam Nasiru Ahmed Elrufai secured the loans in the first four years, Kaduna would have become great in terms of development, which we assume, the new administration will follow. He changed the face of governance in Kaduna State, that for many years to come, his achievements will remain a reference point.

Now, who will judge whom or Police whom with a dead end at the starting line? The current Commissioner of Finance, was the Accountant General in Mallam Nasiru government and acting Commissioner for Finance at the same time when the loans were obtained, she is now saddled with the responsibility of providing all paperwork over the spending of the loans . Murtala Dabo, the current Commissioner for Finance, was the Permanent Secretary Works, during Mallam Nasiru government and almost all the works and the sale of government house’s also passed through the Ministry.

Rt Hon Aminu Shagalinku, now Commissioner for Housing, was the Speaker of the Assembly, when the loan were obtained, among many others. Those who facilitated the the loans in whatever capacity are also around and should explain their role or roles. The whole gamut reminds me as Nelson Demille wrote of “a case study in contradictions and hypocrisy”.
