The Sultan of Sokoto and Chairman of the National Traditional Rulers Council of Nigeria (NTRCN), Muhammad Sa’ad Abubakar, has congratulated Oba Rashidi Adewolu Ladoja, on his emergence as the 44th Olubadan of Ibadanland, Oyo State.
In a statement issued through the Sultanate Council, Sultan Abubakar described Oba Ladoja’s ascension as well-deserved, noting that his wealth of experience as a businessman, farmer, former federal legislator, and ex-governor of Oyo State would be invaluable in his new role as custodian of the Ibadan Kingdom.
The new Olubadan succeeds the late Oba Akinloye Owolabi Olakulehin, who passed away on July 7, 2025, and was laid to rest on August 8. His nomination by the Olubadan-in-Council was confirmed after Governor Seyi Makinde paid homage to him at his Bodija residence in Ibadan on Wednesday, August 20, 2025.
“We congratulate the new Olubadan of Ibadanland, who has been an ally for many years. As a leader with strong consciousness of God and a commitment to peace, unity, and development of Nigeria, we are certain that Oba Rashidi Adewolu Ladoja will excel as the traditional leader of his people,” Sultan Abubakar said.
He also commended Governor Makinde for respecting tradition and supporting the wishes of the Ibadan people.
“May Allah continue to guide you and ease your affairs as governor, and may He help Oba Ladoja succeed on the throne as Olubadan of Ibadanland. Aamiin,” the Sultan prayed.
Oba Ladoja, a former governor of Oyo State (2003–2007), will be formally presented with the staff of office at a coronation ceremony scheduled for September 2026.
