Sultan Muhammad Sa’ad Abubakar, is scheduled to speak at the Business Session of the Religion for Peace World Council Meeting taking place on Tuesday, July 29, 2025, at the Grand Hyatt Hotel in Istanbul, Turkey.
The high-level global gathering, which is held every five years, last convened in Germany in 2020. This year’s edition brings together delegates from over 140 countries, representing all major religions of the world.
A key focus of the 2025 meeting is the global debt crisis affecting low-income countries. Participants are expected to examine its impact on economic growth and development, and adopt actionable strategies to help these nations escape what has been described as an economic quagmire. Sultan Sa’ad Abubakar is billed to address this session.
Another major highlight of the conference is the launch of the Shared Sacred Flourishing Initiative (SSFI). The initiative calls on religious and faith communities to pursue a holistic vision of peace, reconciliation, and the promotion of human dignity and well-being across cultures and religious traditions.
The meeting will also feature a special session on “Faith, Ethics, and Dignity in the Age of Artificial Intelligence,” exploring the ethical and cultural implications of emerging technologies on global values and religious beliefs.
The World Council Meeting is expected to conclude on Wednesday, July 30, with a press conference.
Sultan Sa’ad Abubakar arrived in Istanbul on Monday and was received at the airport by Nigeria’s Acting Ambassador to Turkey, Mohammed Sadiq Abubakar.
