The Coalition of Shiroro Associations (COSA) has raised concerns over what it describes as a deliberate campaign of intimidation against its members by certain politicians in Niger State.
In a strongly worded statement issued on Friday by its Publicity Secretary, Abdulrahaman Babafada, COSA alleged that some political figures are exploiting state resources to harass and silence members of the coalition, especially following its recent media engagements.
COSA had held a series of press conferences to voice the discontent of Shiroro residents over the imposition of a chairmanship candidate by the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the local government, citing constitutional rights to free expression and press freedom.
However, the group now claims that its members are facing abductions and false allegations orchestrated by political actors who feel threatened by the coalition’s activism.
“We want to make it clear that COSA will not spare anyone found harassing our members. We will exhaust all legal avenues to defend and protect their rights,” Babafada said.
He warned those behind the alleged intimidation to reconsider their actions, affirming that the coalition remains committed to standing for the public interest.
“COSA’s very essence of existence is to protect and defend the overriding public interest, and we would rather die with that value than live without it,” the statement added.
COSA called on relevant authorities to investigate the reported abuses and ensure that justice prevails for the people of Shiroro.
