The National Association of Seadogs, (NAS), also known as Pyrates Confraternity has donated food items to flood victims in Etsako Central local government area of Edo.

The items donated were received by the Senior Special Assistant to Gov. Godwin Obaseki on local government affairs, Etsako Central, Mr Kadiri Erumiseli on Sunday.

The Items included: Bags of rice, Bags of beans, Bags of garri, Packs of Noodles, Toiletries, and Beverages amongst others.

Mr Dirisu Odion, the Capoon Hybrid Deck, Edo North branch who presented the food items to the victims, said it was part of the association’s humanitarian service to assist rural communities to meet their needs.

Odion reiterated the commitment of the Pyrates Confraternity to put smiles on the faces of the communities affected by the flood.

“Pyrates confraternity is always the first to give helping hands whenever the communities need it.

“It is part of our humanistic idea that when there is need in any community, we try to assist, we give out charitable supports to communities who lack basic amenities.

“We are here to give support to those who have been displaced by flood, we are appealing that the items we have donated should get to those that were affected by the flood,” he said.

Odion, however, urged governments, corporate organisation and well-meaning Nigerians to support, by assisting in providing humanitarian service to the victims.

“Our advise is that they should come and donate; we can’t do it alone, we are a non-governmental organisation trying to help.

“We appeal to other charitable organisations, governments, Federal, state, local government to come to their assistance to ameliorate the suffering of the affected victims of flood disasters and Internally Displaced Persons in their domain.

In his response, the SSA to Obaseki who received the items on behalf of the government, thanked the association and promised to ensure that the items got to the affected victims.

“Let me first of all appreciate and thank the Pyrate confraternity for these items, this is not the first time of receiving items on behalf of the internally displaced persons.

“In several occasions, governments and other well-meaning Nigerians have brought relief materials to help the people, all these items we share them in various 13 communities affected by the flood.

“These items are judiciously shared and we also put apparatus in place to checkmate anything they take away to the 13 communities affected by the flood.

“I have eyes in the various communities that go round to ensure that the items are judiciously share among the affected people.

“I want to say thank you to the seadogs and you know government cannot do it alone,

“We need people like this to come and also support what the government is doing. I believe the governor will hear and see it from my report,” Erumiseli said.
