The Minister of Defence, Mohammed Badaru received the Chief of Defence Staff, General C. G Musa, who was at the Ship House to formally introduce the newly appointed acting Chief of Army Staff, Major General Olufemi Oluyede to the Minister on Thursday.

THESTORIES recalls that President Bola Tinubu approved the appointment of Major General Oluyede Olufemi as the acting Chief of Army Staff, who stepped in due to the indisposition of the substantive Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Taoreed Lagbaja. The temporary appointment is aimed at ensuring continuity in the Nigerian Army’s leadership and maintaining operational efficiency amid the demands of national security.

Major General Oluyede, a seasoned officer known for his extensive service and experience in the military, has held several key command and operational roles over his career. He is respected within the ranks for his strategic approach and commitment to military professionalism, particularly in counterinsurgency operations in northern Nigeria and other high-risk areas.

Lieutenant General Lagbaja, who has served as Chief of Army Staff since his appointment, has overseen significant advancements in army operations, pushing for reforms to strengthen the military’s capacity against internal and external threats. While details of his indisposition have not been publicly disclosed, his tenure has been marked by initiatives to modernize Nigeria’s Army and address ongoing security issues, including insurgency and banditry across the country.

The appointment of Major General Oluyede as acting Chief of Army Staff is expected to maintain the momentum in executing the Army’s strategies and priorities during this transitional period. This shift also underscores the Nigerian government’s commitment to stability within the military command, which is crucial in times of heightened security concerns.

As acting Chief, Oluyede is anticipated to continue implementing strategic military operations aimed at enhancing peace and security nationwide.
